For your Unit 2 Complete assignment, write a narrative essay (minimum 1000 words, excluding source crediting) in which you address and discuss the questions and statements listed below. Use at least three scholarly sources and remember to demonstrate a thorough understanding of the READ and ATTEND sections in your essay. Cite your sources in APA format.
• Explain the four layers of the typical state court system and describe the types of cases heard at each level. Include the difference between limited jurisdiction and general jurisdiction as it applies to courts. Additionally, identify “problem-solving” courts and distinguish how they handle cases differently than traditional courts.
• Explain the role of the Prosecutor in the Criminal Justice system and what they do at various stages of the process. Also, detail how prosecutors interact with others in the system (police officers, defense attorneys, judges, probation officers, etc.).
• In addition to the standard Rules of Ethics that apply to all lawyers, Prosecutors have ethical rules that apply only to them. Discuss these unique rules for Prosecutors and give two examples, from the textbook, of Prosecutors who failed to follow these rules.
• Most Prosecutors have autonomy and broad discretion in the way they handle their cases. Based on what you’ve read in the textbook, how does the Criminal Justice Process benefit from Prosecutors having autonomy and discretion? What are some dangers of Prosecutors having autonomy and broad discretion?
